This is my 1st post!!! Glamping: I tried it...and I loved it!

'Glamping'. A word not yet known to us Canucks, but it's a word circulating through the budget-savy, stylin' travel crowd. I like to think of myself as belonging to that crowd; please keep your opinions on that to yourselves and leave me to my blissful delusions, okay?
I recently had 4 perfect days on the California coast- btween L.A. and San Francisco, and more details on how to achieve said perfect 4 days, are coming up on my next post. But, for Finding Fanny's first ever blog, it's gonna be all about GLAMPING! I just like to say it- go ahead- 'Glaaammmping. Feels good in the mouth, right?!

The definition of Glampingg- in case you haven't already deduced it- is Camping + Glamour = Glamping.
I've done quite a bit of camping ( I can hear some of you snicker- I have!!!) particularly in the Adirondacks, and have fond memories of the usual suspects: Smores, star-gazing, fresh air, hiking & slightly smoky eggs.
What I have less fond memories of are the black flies, the late-night desperate search for a bush ( and proper sloping) to pee on, the undeniable constant fear of bears, and - worst of all- waking up with joints so stiff I thought I was in the Benjamin Button movie.

Enter Glamping: What if I told you there was a place where the tent (or yurts if you must have a bed) is already set up? Where a cute guy named 'Ben' helps you to your tent with your gear via golf cart? Where, after a cool- but  minus any Benjamin Button aches- night in your tent, a hot tub awaited you? Where a Sushi Bar and an exquisite restaurant featuring organic produce from their own garden serves uh-mazing food?
This place exists. This place is called Treebones Resort.
Are you back? Did you Google it?

Yes, yes, there's a heated pool  & hot tub, a gourmet breakfast included that features waffles you griddle yourself, but- believe it or not- all that is not what makes this place so magical.
I am going to sound so flaky right now, and you may never read another one of my blogs, but, what makes this place so magical is the energy.

Talk to ANYONE who's been to Big Sur and they'll tell you, there's a palpable feeling in the air. A feeling of total peace and calm. A serenity that only comes from being in a place so beautiful, a place still so pristine and authentic; where the Redwoods almost whisper to you and the ocean reveals itself only when she's ready- usually  by noon-  after the dramatic clouds of fog have made their exit.

And the stars. No, not Goldie or Angie or Barbie- remember stars?! Like the Big Dipper? Orian? The Milky Way? Have you ever seen the Mily way fall into the ocean?
I have. And I cannot imagine a better place to have experienced it in, and at a bargain price of 75$/night inclusive of breakfast, pool & hot tub use. (Yurts on the property- which have beds and are pretty luxurious- go for 200$/night, still a bargain compared to other Big Sur properties such as The Post Ranch Inn ( start at 900+$//night, or even Ventana at 500$+/night.)

Sigh....I'm back now, back in my Montréal appartment, wirth the traffic, that unmistakable chill in the air, but it's okay- 'cause I'll always have Big Sur!

  1. Welcome to the blogosphere!
Fun read and although this "Glamping" thing is soooo CA and probably won't make its way to Oka, I can share the experience vicariously through you.

Looking forward to reading more of your experiences with food, travel and love.

  2. Hi Ray! Thanks for reading! I actually have a dream of setting up a 'Glamping' experience on thw Mauricie river! Anyone want to fund me? lol...it is very CA, but there's something to be said about being in nature and just kinda roughing it.
The Sibley tent I had was a nice compromise. The Yurts were a bit silly in my opinion. Basically a hotel room...but the folks from Sabta Barbara found it very 'earthy'....lol.
I will add your blog to my site...xof
